To The Backstreet Boys On Their 28th Anniversary

To Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick…

Congratulations!

Congratulations on 28 years of continued success, maintaining a united front in an industry that will try anything to tear you down and apart, being a family, and showing us, truly, what you all are made of. As fans, we have been witness to some of your highest of highs and lowest lows, both individually and as a group, and we can safely say that, fan or not, you have all been nothing short of inspiring.

April 20th is not only a celebration of the Backstreet Boys as a group, but a time for the Backstreet “army”, as you have named us, to reflect on everything that has been, is and is to come. The five of you coming together to create a group in 1993 has not only produced nearly three decades of music that has played in the background (and forefront) of our lives, but has been 28 years of nostalgia, memories, lessons, friendships, travels, and moments that our lives have been better for having. The ripple effect that the Backstreet Boys have had, not only on us but on society itself, is immeasurable and we count ourselves so very lucky to have existed alongside you all.

That being said, THANK YOU.

You all say it in meet and greets and concerts. “Thank you for coming” has been a standard among the five of you, ever appreciative that we all keep showing up, but little do you know, the biggest thank you is to you guys. If we could scream it in a crowd and it would reach your ears, we would. The fact that the Backstreet Boys keep choosing to come back to us, keep choosing to create for us, sing with us, perform in front of us, hug us, cruise with us, never give up on US… we can never properly express how much that means. In a world ever changing, the Backstreet Boys have been a constant. THANK YOU has been and never will be enough.

Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ, and Nick… we will never stop rooting for you. We will never stop screaming “yeaaahh” even if we don’t particularly think you’re sexual (just kidding), we will never showing up to wherever you are, and we will never stop appreciating all that you have put into the Backstreet Boys. You are treasures, you are icons, and it has been a joy to be on this ride with you all.

Here’s to a few more decades and millions of more good times!

XOXO,
The Fans

A few weeks ago, we asked fans to pick one BSB song they couldn’t live without. We have compiled those answers into a playlist HERE so that you can celebrate with the sound of Backstreet all day long.

#BuyMillenniumOniTunes :: A BSB Anniversary Fan Effort To Get The Backstreet Boys on iTunes Charts

It’s (almost) the Backstreet Boys’ 28th anniversary and we are literally looking for any reason to celebrate these days!

As things start to return to normal, we’re still limited to a virtual celebration of all things Backstreet, but it also gives us a chance to involve all fans worldwide! A few days ago, inspired by Lady Gaga’s fans launching her ‘ArtPOP’ album back onto iTune charts 8 years after its release, we asked fans on Twitter if they would be interested in doing something similar to celebrate the Backstreet Boys. Your answer? An overwhelming YES!

So here’s the deal —

Starting Sunday, April 18th at 12am EST, we will start purchasing downloads of the Backstreet Boys’ ‘Millennium’ album and streaming to get the album into the iTunes charts around the world to kick off the anniversary celebration.

Why ‘Millennium’??

‘Millennium’ is undoubtedly the Boys’ most iconic album to date, was chart topping, record breaking and truly defined an era. That album was the first time that fans truly proved their love for the Backstreet Boys by taking it all the way to #1 in the first week and making it one of the best selling albums of all time, followed up by one of the highest grossing tours of all time. It is also the first BSB album to be released internationally, with the same tracklisting, at the same time.

This was, of course, before the digital age and we would love to see it gain digital notoriety for our Boys as well! Also, we are hoping to gain traction for the album with non-fans by spreading the hashtag and that they’ll join in for nostalgic reasons!

What are we doing??

On Sunday, April 18th at 12am EST, we will start purchasing the Millennium album on iTunes, streaming on Apple Music, and on Spotify. USE THE HASHTAGS #BuyMillenniumOniTunes AND #MillenniumOnTop TO SPREAD THE WORD ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

We have put together this Spotify playlist with Millennium songs as well as a few others in between to make sure they count as there is some discretion on whether or not repeating an album counts toward chart placement.

The breakdown of streams counting toward charts is like this (per chartdata.org): For songs, all official audio and video streams from within the US are counted in addition to pure single sales. 150 streams = 1 track sale.
For albums, all official audio and video streams (SEA) from within the US are counted in addition to TEA and pure sales. 1500 streams = 10 track sales = 1 album sale.

Please note that gifted albums on iTunes do not count toward chart placement, but you CAN give someone an iTunes giftcard and their purchase will count.

Feel free to use the graphics below or create your own.

We welcome any fans in other countries (or even the U.S) who want to send screenshots of charts as they progress as we will be doing our best to do the same! We’re so excited to celebrate with everyone and see what we can accomplish together to let the world know that Backstreet is STILL the best and to let the Backstreet Boys know that after 28 years, we still got it goin’ on!

This is the first of a few things we’re doing this anniversary so stay tuned!

20 Years of “I Want It That Way”

While there are so many songs that the Backstreet Boys have released before and since “I Want It That Way” hit airwaves 20 years ago, there is no denying that if you walk up to almost anyone who was alive in 1999 and sing “Tell me why…”, they’ll answer with a lyric from the classic hit.

For many fans, “I Want It That Way” is more than a song. It’s a memory.

It’s the feeling of watching the music video premiere on MTV and squealing once those five faces appeared on the screen. It was a time before the Millennium album dropped and the Backstreet Boys became the best selling boyband of all time. It was the first time we had felt such great anticipation.

It’s the moment some became a fan.

It’s the go-to on karaoke night and the tune that we’ll turn up louder anytime we hear it on the radio.

They’re the words we scream at the top of our lungs in a crowd – who is also singing along – no matter where you are.

Two decades ago was definitely a simpler time and it was a time where a song that didn’t make any sense made a lot of sense to love. Before there were adult responsibilities, bills and babies, there were the Backstreet Boys and there was “I Want It That Way”.

We’ve joked that we’d be okay with the Boys never playing the song in concert again, but the truth is that it holds a special place for each and every one of us. The truth is that we’ll always sing along. The truth is that we’ll always scream “DON’T WANNA HEAR YOU…” even when Nick doesn’t and we’ll always fill in whatever part Brian isn’t singing when he points his mic to the crowd. We’ll always feel like a Backstreet Boy when we wear all white and we’ll forever be jealous of the girls in the music video (then and now).

In thinking about how lucky we are that we’ve been fans of a band that has had a career that has outlasted most other bands in their era, we also think about how thankful we are for the music that is absolutely timeless. This song and the many others that will outlast all of us. “I Want It That Way” is a piece of music that will and has already brought together multiple generations across the world and will continue to for another 20 years.

Obviously, we want it that way.

4 Years Of What Happens On The Backstreet

On December 17, 2014, What Happens On The Backstreet officially began.

4 years…

Hundreds of thousands of clicks…

7800+ Twitter followers and 8300+ Facebook likes…

Multiple BSB events…

Countless memories later….

HERE. WE. ARE.

I started WHOTB anonymously to keep it “for fans, by fans”, which has been our tagline from the beginning. The majority of us are thinking the things written here – I’m just putting them into words. Usually, this is the only time of year I write personally, but if you’ve been following us this year, you know it’s been quite a ride and there were a few other personal notes here and there. I’m so immensely grateful for each and every one of you still reading this.

This year, I only want to say THANK YOU.

If it weren’t for EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of you who read WHOTB on the regular or interact on our social pages, this would be the end. In fact, everytime I thought about throwing in the towel on this “venture”, for lack of a better term, this year, one of you unknowingly said something kind, suggested a subject for a post that I couldn’t turn down, told us how you found the information you needed for an upcoming Backstreet event by finding WHOTB, etc. It seemed like everytime I was done, you guys knew where to fill in the spaces.

For Fans. By Fans.

What Happens has never been more by the fans than it has this year. From numerous posts that included your input and helpful information to the sweetest fans who have shared info, tips, photos and videos with us while attending events all over the world to holding up your BSB 25 hearts at the Sail Away Party on the cruise, I absolutely could not have kept this site going without you.

Oh, and banding together to create and fund the EPIC 25th anniversary Billboard ad for the Boys with enough money left over to donate to St. Jude?? YOU GUYS DID THAT.

2018 has been a year of highs and a few challenges for Backstreet Boys and fans alike but when the going has gotten tough, we’ve had each other. This year, having a fan-mily that has your back has never meant more. This year, loving a band that moves forward in the face of adversity has never been more inspiring. This has been a year of learning and I hope to move forward into the next year with a renewed spirit.

Thank you to everyone who has supported WHOTB from the beginning. Thank you to everyone who reads, shares, likes, and comments on our posts – even if we agree to disagree. Thank you for all of your kindest words (and even the not so kind – it makes for a thicker skin). Thank you for laughing with us at the dumb stuff and crying with us at the emotional. Thank you for understanding when we’ve had to take a break.

Thank you to those who I’ve bounced ideas off of, especially Kristie, who also writes posts for WHOTB, but mostly tells me what sounds good and what sounds bad. 🙂

I can’t tell you that What Happens On The Backstreet will be around forever, but I can tell you that because of this “hobby” I started 4 years ago, I have gotten to know some of the best people that I would otherwise not have known, I have gotten to chat with some of the sweetest souls and I have enjoyed Backstreet experiences on another level because we all got to share them together.

Shout out to Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick for staying together long enough for all of us to become a fan-mily and for finally releasing a new album so I have a new reason to stick around these parts. Just kidding! (Kind of.) In all seriousness, those five make it so easy to get behind them, right? Forever a fan. Forever shouting to the world that these are our Boys!

Soooo… if you’ll have us, let’s head into year five together. 2019 is already looking bright with a Grammy nomination, a new album, a new tour, a few Las Vegas shows and who knows what else! The future is looking bright and we’ll be here to talk ALLLL about it. Can’t wait to meet even more of you.

Wishing everyone peace and wellness, hope and happiness, and all of your wildest Backstreet dreams to come true.

XOXO,

Sara

#BSB25Project: To The Backstreet Boys On Their 25th Anniversary

“As long as there’ll be music, we’ll be coming back again.”

The line from an extended version of the Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” has evolved from a lyric in a song to make fans scream as teenagers to something that, as adults, we’ve come to believe as more of a promise.

Today, April 20, 2018, the Backstreet Boys are celebrating their 25th anniversary together. You can see 25 as a quarter of a century or as only the beginning of a long road ahead, but one thing is for sure – it’s a remarkable accomplishment for any band, especially in recent years.

And here they are. Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Nick Carter keep coming back for more, keep giving us more to look forward to, keep making music together and stay the family they always told us they were. These five men have spent more than half of each of their lives together – through the highest highs and the lowest lows, weddings, babies, triumph and tragedy – and they’ve done it all in the public eye.

And through it all, they’ve never turned their back on us, the fans.

They’ve made music… for us.

They’ve toured endlessly… for us.

They’ve spent days on cruise ships… for us.

They’ve reached out to ask our opinions so that they could keep it fresh… for us.

They’ve missed birthdays, anniversaries, and family moments… for us.

They’ve been open and honest every step of the way… for us.

They’ve remained a family so that we could all stay together as fans, making these memories, traveling the earth, making our own families in more ways than one…

And on this 25th anniversary of the Backstreet Boys being together, we wanted to do something… for them.

Late last year, we began the #BSB25Project…

Hundreds of fans came together from ALL OVER THE WORLD to donate enough money to take out an ad in Billboard magazine to celebrate our Boys’ anniversary together.

From $1 to $100 to sharing posts to donating merch pieces to auction off, we came together in a big way and exceeded the goal within a few months! No one can say that the love for the Backstreet Boys is any less than it was in the 90s. In fact, it has only grown.

So, in the April 21st issue of Billboard Magazine, there is a full page color ad (designed by fellow fan, Michelle) congratulating Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick on 25 years together and thanking them for everything they’ve done for us and everything they continue to do.

It’s the very least we could do.

Capture

With the extra $800 donated to the campaign, we donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, who specialize in treating children with cancer, so that they may have a chance to live a long life and love a band + make as many memories as we have with the Backstreet Boys.

Congratulations on 25 years, Backstreet Boys. Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything that you’ve done and will do in the future. You’ve changed our lives, you’ve given us life, and you have meant more to us than you will ever know. It has been an absolute honor and privilege to be a BSB fan because of you five gentlemen.

From now until forever.

Since beginning What Happens On The Backstreet 3 years ago this weekend, so much has changed and so much has remained the same. It’s been the time of our lives and in some moments, the highest of highs. But it hasn’t all been great. There have been some really weird times, for the Backstreet Boys and for the fans, but we have always ended up back here. Together. Like our five favorites, we’ve learned that the best way to get through anything is together.

giphy

This year, I thought about shutting down WHOTB. The whole reason I began is because I thought that the Boys deserved better promotion and that the fans needed a place that was updated, but also a place that made sure to point out not to take ourselves too seriously. We achieved that. With nearly 6500 likes on Facebook and 6100 followers on Twitter, WHOTB has become bigger than I ever dreamed. 100 followers and 5 likes alone would have been crazy to me.

giphy2

Now, backstreetboys.com and nickcarter.net have picked up pace and are the regularly updated websites that the fans and the Boys have always deserved. In fact, when this blog isn’t being updated, you can bet it’s because I’m on one of those two. 2017 has become a better version of 1999 in terms of being a fan – we’re adults with access to Kevin, Brian, Howie, Nick and AJ. We’re meeting them. We’re traveling for them. THEY KNOW OUR NAMES. Isn’t this what we as fans have always wanted? What a time to be alive!

giphy3

That being said, it still seems important that we stick around for the little things. The blog posts may be less frequent than when I started (which drives me crazy), but I’ve made it a personal mission to remind all of us to take a minute to laugh at ourselves, remain positive in the face of adverse situations, and to stay updated – even if there are other places to do that now. You can never have enough Backstreet (or the truth), right?

If you’ve read this far, WOW! Thank you! Who are you people that keep reading the things I have to say? Ha!

giphy4

I’ve kept What Happens going for three years because of every single one of you reading this. I know so many of you now and have had so many conversations with you guys that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. You’ve poured your hearts out in stories, memories, and contributions to posts when I’ve asked. You’ve trusted me to post your personal moments, you’ve been so kind and you’ve also really let me know what you all think about things – good and bad. Most of all, you’ve shared these posts and you keep coming back. THANK YOU. Thank you for being a part of this and thank you for indulging me.

giphy5

A special thanks to Kristie for being the VIP Guru of WHOTB, but mostly for letting me bounce ideas off her, taking over when she knows something better than I do, and for pushing me to do things outside of my comfort zone (aka literally being my voice when I don’t want to speak up). Also a huge thank you to a few people (who know who they are) for listening, for making things happen, and for endless other things.

giphy6

So… here’s to another year of What Happens On The Backstreet and a WHOLE LOT happening on the Backstreet. 2018 will be a quarter of a century celebration for them and I’ll be damned if we won’t be there for every second. We’re staying RIGHT here. Together.

giphy7

I look forward to another 365 days of laughs, tears, memories, VIPs, concerts, multiple album release dates until we get a real one, AJ not doing some more things, rumors, coming together for the greater good and hating each other the next week (let’s be real – that’s what we all do, but we wouldn’t have it any other way). Oh, and we can’t WAIT to see everyone on the cruise.

Thank you again for sticking with WHOTB. As always, my inbox is open for suggestions.

XOXO,

Sara

64 Fans On 24 Years With The Backstreet Boys

On April 20, 1993, Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick became the Backstreet Boys. Five guys worked their way out of Orlando, FL to stages around the world.

They kept working and working…

…Until they changed millions of lives with their music, their stories, and the human beings that they are.

In 2017, we are celebrating the success they’ve had as a group for the past 24 years. They’ve been through public ups and downs, losing a member and getting him back, album after album, tour after tour, weddings, babies, health issues and more.

For 24 years, they’ve had each other’s backs.

They’ve been each other’s family.

In turn, they’ve become our family.

Words aren’t enough for everything we’ve felt about the Backstreet Boys over the past 24 years, so we asked you to simply send in a few things such as when was the first time and the last time you’ve seen the Boys live and how the past years as a fan have impacted you.

Before you read on to the lovely things everyone else had to say, here’s where I want to start:

Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ, and Nick…

We are so sorry for not loving you sooner, but thank you for knowing that we would come around. We’re sorry for ever doubting, years ago, that you would keep coming back. Thank you for sticking with us when we may not have stuck with you. Thank you for continuously showing up when the world seemed like it was against you. Thank you for not giving up on us or giving up on each other. Thank you for making music that we can pass on to our children. Thank you for healing us in ways we never knew we needed.

Thank you for all of the memories you’ve given us.

Here’s to the next 24 years, Boys. We can’t wait to see what the future holds.

When my mom passed in ’02 they were there. When I graduated in ’05 they were there, when I got married and had my babies they were there. My 5yr old was diagnosed with cancer when he was 9 months old and when he was getting treatment all he would listen to was BSB. They were the only thing that would calm him and lul him to sleep. I sent Brian a letter about my son and asked him for a signed photo not really expecting a reply. To my surprise I got a signed photo in the mail for my son. It sits on the mantle above the fireplace. I plan on going to see them if and when they have a world tour and I plan on bringing my son so he can meet Brian and the rest of BSB. I feel like BSB is apart of my family. Without them life would be pretty depressing.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: We see a lot of changes in the past 24 years. Being a fan since the released of their first single, I had to rely on MTV, borrowed cassette tapes, VHS tapes just to watch and listen to the Backstreet Boys. Then we had CDs, VCDs, and eventually Youtube. But nothing beats the feeling of watching the Boys perform live for the first time. It was only last year that I was able to save enough to be able to fly to Manila and watch their concert. The emotions were indescribable. We’ve watched them grow from young carefree boys to responsible family men. They are meant for greatness and I will be their fan until the end.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: I was 8 years old and fresh off the spice girls. A friend showed me quit playing games and asked me who I thought was handsome. I was hooked on Aj. Growing up my parents fought a lot and bsb were the only ones that helped me sleep. Backstreet boys sang me to sleep for years. I was teased for being a fan, told it was a phase. As I grew up I continued to listen to them to help with anxiety. When I was pregnant I played unbreakable non stop, it helped me through my husbands deployment. Basically if I need stress relief, or help going to sleep, my boys always bring me comfort. I can always listen and watch them and feel comforted and loved. Now my son’s love the boys with me.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: The Backstreet Boys shaped who I am as a person. I was bullied pretty badly in high school, and their music helped me escape from that.

When my mother died, they helped me by releasing tour dates two weeks after her funeral, which reminded me that there was something worth living for.

Through thick and thin, they’ve been there for me through their music, with concerts and music videos. They’ve helped me meet some of the best people I know (including my best friend at a Black & Blue show), and allowed me to travel to many places – for concerts, of course.

Oh, and, frankly, their music still makes me grin and dance around.

So, thank you, Boys, for everything. Thank you for your music, for your lyrics, for your lives. I’ll be right here for the next 24 years, ready for another album and another tour.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: Where do I even begin?! I have been a fan for almost 20 years! When I was a freshman in high school they helped me through a hard time. I felt like the only time I was really happy was when I was watching or listening to them. These five guys mean more to me than they or anyone else will ever know! I am so thankful for them and their music and how it, and they have touched me. Also, the song Never Gone has a special meaning for me. My mom died in 2005 in a car accident and that song really helped me, but also made me sad! I can’t even really put into words how much these five guys mean to me! My dream finally came true on June 7, 2014 when I met them. I was so happy and excited to finally meet them! What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: The music of the boys helped me through some pretty tough times.. I still cry like a little baby when ‘Show me..’ comes along (my dad died and it was his favorite song). But at concerts I always have my besties by my side to give me a hug and to make sure AJ sees me and throws me a handkiss, sings to me and one of his signature bows where he smiles and raises his eyebrows (you all know what I mean).. Oh I could go on and on.. But the boys gave us so many memories.. They are the happy place we go to when we close our eyes and we want to build more memories to that smile on our faces glazing away in the far distance for many, many years to come!!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: The BSB has meant everything to me since the first time I heard “QPGWM” in 97′ I fell in love with their voices & music. I came from Lima, Peru to the USA in 96′ along with my dad & brother, my mom passed away when I was 8 yrs old, to make long story short.. The BSB were (still is) my motivation and inspiration to learn the English language, they were my reason to keep pushing forward in my life and school (barely had any family) It wasn’t easy adapting to a new country and culture but thanks to my BSB, I had a reason to look forward to life every day, I learned their music by writing them in my journal, singing, doing scrapbooks, calling radio stations to request their songs, calling TRL etc! I came out of my shell, I grew up listening to their music and lyrics (still do). There are no words to describe what I feel about my boys and how their music has inpacted my life throughout all these years, growing up without a mother wasn’t easy.. To date, I still jam to their music and I relate so much to their music, every song has a special meaning to me because it helped through each stage of my life.. I love them! I’m a proud BSB Fan! 20 years & still counting KTBSPA!!!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: My sister and I fell in love with the BSB in 1996. We grew up with a dad suffering from a mental illness and their music was like refuge for us. In 2007, she had big health problems and she almost died. It was the worst moment of my life and BSB helped me holding on when she was in a coma. She kept crippling after-effects so in 2014 when we saw them live together for the first time, it was like if we went back in time when she was healthy and carefree. BSB are the best antidepressant ever ! They helped me holding on when I was totally lost and desperate. And since my Mum came to a BSB cruise with us, she’s a big fan too ! That’s a family affair ! We love you guys.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: My life changed in 1996 when I was visiting my dad’s family in Holland. I was watching MTV with my cousins and a music video with 5 amazingly talented guys filled the screen. “Get Down” was my first taste of BSB and I was hooked and desperately needed more. BSB has been a constant in my life, always there crooning exactly the right words when I needed them the most, during the lows (losses of loved ones) to the highs (marrying my high school soul mate) of my life. After 21 years of only seeing them from a distance, my inner 9 year old finally got her wish to meet them. And let me say, my life changed yet again. So thank you: Nick, Brian, AJ, Kevin and Howie for changing the life of that little 9 year girl.

It’s cheesy to say, but every time I’m down, they seem to make it right. To me, that’s what makes them LARGER THAN LIFE!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: Backstreet has always been the great escape for me – a fantasy if you will, that my 13 year old self clung bitterly to when I was getting bullied daily – at school, and at home. Imagining that words in songs like “The One” and “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” were crafted specifically for me, got me through hard days, and often hushed me to sleep when anxieties pounded at my door.

They have also always been the best form of comfort to me – helping to calm, and silence storms by simply hearing their melodies. I’m so grateful for them – being completely biased to AJ specifically – who more times than one, talked me off the ledge.

Many said it would be a phase, but here I am, 19 years later still going strong. Love you boys!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: So many moments stand out, but 2 revolve around my 2 sons. In 2005 I was due to have my first child a week after a BsB concert, I ended up having him early and couldn’t go. My friends bought me some wonderful souvenirs back instead. I have been to at least 1 date of every UK tour that BSB have ever done apart from that year! Fast forward 9 years and I’m 4 months pregnant with my 2nd son in the pit at the NEC for the latest tour, I had the most amazing time. 4.5 months later I have prepared a CD full of BSB songs to play whilst having my c section but the delivery room didn’t have a CD player – the nurse suggested putting the radio on and randomly guess what was the first song that came on and also the song my 2nd son was born to? I want it that way! He’s called Ace Joseph. BSB has pretty much bench the soundtrack to my life!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: The BSB’s music has helped me through a lot of the struggles I face being in the Autism Spectrum. They have been my escape, making me believe things will get better. I really miss them and I hope to see them again soon.

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: My Backstreet Boys… How to even begin? I have so many memories forever connected with so many songs. BSB were, are, my life long soundtrack. From the rough high school years, to my military service, the countless hours of driving with one (or more) BSB Cd playing and me singing/ screaming along, and even giving birth with a BSB playlist!
I can’t and I don’t want to imagine my life without BSB music in it.
Over the years I was lucky enough to make some lovely dear friends (who I’ll meet some day, I’m sure!) thanks to our mutual love for the boys.
So thank you Nick, AJ, Brian, Kevin and Howie for everything you gave me on the last 24 years, Here’s hoping to celebrate the next 24 with you!

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: Well, to start off i am NOT a 90s kid. The first ever time i heard a bsb song would be about 4-5 months ago maybe, but since then i have been hooked ! The first was quit playing which was oddly catchy, and then a friend of mine told me to listen to IWITW. At first i didnt think much of it, but it went on to become an all time fav. Well on thing lead to the next and now i know about 73 songs maybe? But they are amazing and its hard to listen to anything else except bsb. I even play them on guitar especially i want it and it sounds soooo good. I never really had the opportunity of experiencing them at their peak so i wish them all the best such that their new album is a huge success and brings them to mainstream pop back again. Backstreet’s really back , alright !

What Has The Last 24 Years With BSB Meant To You?: I can’t even began to say how much theses fives men have influenced my life ! People say they are just a band, but everyday they have taught me about perseverence, about love, about family, about overcoming obstacles, about respect, about passion, about friendship, about patience, about trust, about laughter and about life.
Their music is my happy place. But it goes beyond the music. I feel so blessed to be a Backstreet Fan because of everything they do for us and how they go out of their way to make us feel special, loved and appreciated; whether it’s a tweet from Nick, a smile from Brian, a serenade from AJ, a hug from Howie or a heartfelt thank you from Kevin. Thank you for the past 24 years & here’s to many more! I love you! #ktbspa

2 Years Of What Happens On The Backstreet

whotbvegasheader

Fan-mily,

It’s been two years today since I started What Happens On The Backstreet simply because I thought the Backstreet Boys (and the fans) deserved more than they were getting at the time. The BSB needed something to promote all of their goodness and fans needed something that would share the lighter side of things (most of the time) while still being informative, fun and something to share.

I honestly never thought I / it would last two years.

328,000+ hits, 3500+ FB likes, and nearly 4900 Twitter followers later, here it is.

2016 was a lighter year for the Boys and obviously, not much happening on the Backstreet until the past two months. For that reason, a lot of my energy has been spent on nickcarter.net and Nick Nation. You guys, though, keep sticking around! You keep reading what I write, you keep sharing it, you keep responding and you keep entertaining my ridiculous ideas.

If you’re reading this right now, you’ve made 2016 a really great year!

This year, we’ve changed layouts, added a writer (Kristie The VIP Guru), made so many new friends and had more fun interactions with the Backstreet Boys (including in person – WHAT?!).

2017 is fast approaching and it’s going to be a wild one! There’s a lot that will be happening on the Backstreet and we’re going to be here for every bit of it… as long as you are.

So, let’s stay friends, okay?

From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for being so kind (and sometimes critical). Thanks for sharing your stories with me, sharing your ideas, and sharing love only BSB fans understand. I’m forever grateful for every moment.

Love, Love, Love,

Sara

23 Backstreet Boys Moments We’ll Never Forget

BSB is 23Can you believe it? Today the Backstreet Boys celebrate 23 years together and it’s just as much a celebration for us as it is for them. They’ve given us music, friends, some of the best moments of our lives, and everything in between. They’ve been our superheroes and we can’t imagine our lives without them.

Take a trip down memory lane as we name some of our top favorite moments with the Backstreet Boys in the last 23 years (in obviously no particular order).

1. The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

backstreet-boys-hollywood-walk-of-fame

Obviously this list would be incomplete without the Hollywood Walk of Fame star our Boys received on their 20th anniversary. Our hearts were thrilled that Kevin, Howie, Brian, AJ and Nick finally got the public recognition they deserved. We’re never going to forget how happy they all looked in that moment and how proud we were / are of them. Those are OUR boys! Talented, handsome, smart and five of the most hardworking guys you’ll ever meet.

2. The Documentary Release

Backstreet_Boys_Doc_Movie_Poster.jpeg

We waited (and waited and waited) for this documentary to be released… and it was well worth the wait. Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of, aka The BSB Movie, was another one of those moments that we were proud to show the world what we already knew… and some things we didn’t. It was raw, emotional, open, honest and exactly what we wanted from the minute we heard the documentary was being filmed. We’re forever thankful to be fans of a band that can be real and inspire us to push ourselves beyond what we ever dreamed.

3. Kevin’s Return

hqdefault

Sure, we were appreciative that the Backstreet Boys continued as a foursome without Kevin, but there’s something great about having all five of them back together again. It’s something magical. The moment they announced his return at the end of the NKOTBSB tour, we felt whole again.

4. The First BSB Cruise

medium-b8h0k999429w

The first Backstreet Boys cruise in 2010 was a new experience for everyone, the Boys included. It was the first time fans from all over gathered in one place. It was the first time you could almost guarantee running into a Backstreet Boy unexpectedly on a boat (and with only half the boat, it was extremely likely). The buzz about the unknown was crazy and exciting! Six years later, the cruises keep getting crazier and the Backstreet Boys keep stepping up their party game just for us.

5. The Birth of VIP

content-hktzzpedwluljyrwkiuraruovpieszych2wrucl34dc

Remember when you thought nosebleed seats at the Millennium concert were as close as you were going to get to these five? Remember when the Never Gone tour came around and you had to win your way into soundcheck that didn’t even include meet and greet? Your 9 year old self would never believe in a million years that you’ve since then hugged Brian, that Nick kissed you on the cheek, or that Kevin held your hand for what seemed like forever. The VIP experience has meant more to BSB fans that anyone could ever fathom.

6. The Millennium Release

1280x720-flp

The Backstreet Boys and their fans shut. down. Times. Square.

Long gone are the days of MTV studios in the center of NYC and Tower Record album signings, but the memories of the Millennium release day are still fresh in our minds. If you were lucky enough to be a BSB fan in 1999, you’ll remember where you were when the album dropped, how you felt, the tour selling out in minutes, and of course, Millennium TV.

We’re also not ashamed to admit we’ve kept that feeling with every album release since then.

7. The Backstreet Boys Joining Twitter

c5662c371ae2d46aa861dfdfdca61111

Who ever thought the AJ McLean would personally wish you a Happy Birthday? That you’d get an answer about the Backstreet Boys FROM a Backstreet Boy? The moment the BSB joined Twitter actually changed our lives. Who knew 140 characters or less could change our day in an instant? They may not know how much their social media interaction means to us, but every fan remembers when we didn’t have it and we know how incredibly lucky we are to have that connection today.

8. Backstreet Boys Perform With Elton John At The Grammys

They may not have won an actual Grammy that night, but really, isn’t performing with Elton John at the Grammys a huge win?

9. NKOTBSB

members

Love it or hate it, the formation of NKOTBSB was a supergroup move that no one ever saw coming. During this tour, we made new friends, we felt a new kind of electricity, and the press coverage was incredible. It’s safe to say we also recruited a few Blockheads to the Backstreet Army.

10. The First Time We Ever Saw Them

fans_600x411

It’s different for everyone, but each of remembers the exact moment we saw the Backstreet Boys. In a magazine, on TV, in concert… we all remember and we likely picture them in our head still looking like they did in that moment (even if they look better now).

11. TRL Moments

rs_560x415-140625143545-1024-backstreet-cm-62514

Long gone are the days of music video countdowns, waiting outside to get a glimpse of the Backstreet Boys in the window of MTV studios while screaming our eyeballs out, and Carson Daly, but the TRL appearances are some of our fondest Backstreet memories. They didn’t even have to be in studio for us to be excited. Remember the days when Hanson and Britney beating the Backstreet Boys for the #1 video spot was our biggest upset? Take us back!

12. The BSB BBQ at Mixtape Festival

526268_256387857798000_1121049449_n

We are still begging for more events like this! To date, this has been the only real land event with the BSB and it involved outdoor games, lunch, and…well..BBQing. It’s time to bring something like this back, Boys!

13. That Time The Boys Were Caught With Their Pants Down…

enhanced-16851-1420315726-1

Remember when this magazine cover came out and you were scared about what your mom would think? Still epic.

14. The Epic Bridge During The Black and Blue Tour

oca010302-01-cp

The Black and Blue era may not have been the strongest time for the Backstreet Boys, but that bridge over the audience thrilled us to no end. Few of us had ever come this close to any of the Boys and most of us lucky enough to be under the bridge might have had fantasies that they’d fall off and into our arms. Admit it.

15. The Fanclub Chats

3312751448_8589ea72a3

Before Twitter, there was the Backstreet Boys fanclub chats where you’d spend half of your life waiting for Kevin, Howie, AJ, Brian or Nick to pop in. In the mean time, you’d make friends and talk about the dumbest stuff that only a BSB fan would care about. Then, if you were lucky enough to be there when a BSB snuck in, you had to be a speed reader to read all of the messages being sent. Ah, simple times.

16. Nick’s Corner / Harlem Shake Videos

giphy

Courtesy of the brain of Nick Carter, we got videos like Backstreet’s Harlem Shake and Nick’s Corner that featured the Backstreet Boys doing weird things, like sticking their heads in buckets of ice or singing the “Stuck in Traffic” song. If you were a fan during that era, those two things just made you smile. If you’ve never seen them, get on it!

17. Around The World In 100 Hours

1401x788-733502

Featured on MTV’s Diary and a VHS (!), the Backstreet Boys traveled around the world in 100 hours as a promotional tour for the Black and Blue album. How crazy is it to think we weren’t able to keep up with every move they made around the world now? We had to wait for MTV to show it.

It was also the first glimpse that anyone outside of Brazil got to see how crazy it is there for the BSB. Everyone remembers panicking about how they were going to get out of that bus…. and the girl from Canada hanging off the back.

18. The Solo Tours

We love the Backstreet Boys together, but we’re also so proud that they’re a tight enough group to also have successful solo careers between group work. We support it! And we’re glad they never Timberlaked their group…

19. The Backstreet Babies

bsbfamilies_zps9gqsgbsb

When Brian announced that he and Leighanne were expecting a baby boy, we didn’t know how to feel – it was new territory. 13 years later, we’re cheering him on in his Broadway debut and awaiting the arrival of Nick’s son. What?! We’ve loved seeing each of these men become the best dads we knew they’d be and raise the cutest kids on the planet.

20. All of The Memorabilia We Could Get Our Hands On

huge-lot-backstreet-boys-memorabilia-never-used-still-in-packaging-see-pics-2b5e85a303004ffdb787e9ffd5e23c3c

Remember the struggle it was to collect all of the toys at Burger King, even though most of us were too old for kids meals? Remember changing out your posters with every new issue of J-14? I’ll bet you’re aching to get that box of memorabilia out from under your bed right now. If you’re not, it’s because it’s still on your walls or proudly displayed in a semi-adult way in your house. Backstreet 4 lyfe.

21. Frick and Frack

bsb_frickfrac

This may not be a “moment”, but whether Nick and Brian were ever your “favorite” or not, we all have a soft spot in our hearts for Frick and Frack. Maybe because we see ourselves in them with our own best friends. Everyone wanted to be BFFs like they were. Original #BestFriendGoals.

22. The Boys Supporting Each Other

BSBDWTS.jpg

We all get a tingle when these five show up for each other during individual projects. Whether it be Dancing With The Stars, the Dead 7 red carpet, flying in to see Baylee in Disaster, showing up at weddings, baby showers, etc., the love they have for each other is real. They’re a family and we love seeing it to this day.

23. The Music

Movie

Isn’t this obvious? This is what we showed up for in the first place. We all have the first song we heard the Backstreet Boys sing. We all sing along in concerts. We all have that one song that takes us to another place and we all get excited for a new album like it’s the first one they’ve ever released. Kevin, Brian, Howie, AJ and Nick have given us the gift of music over and over for the past 23 years and we couldn’t be more grateful for the way they’ve reached in and touched our hearts.

Happy 23rd Anniversary, Backstreet Boys!

Thank you for everything.
