NFTs, Refunds, and More: All The 2021 Backstreet Boys Updates You Need Right Now

We’re coming on the end of another year without the Backstreet Boys and there’s a lot to be said about it. For now, we’re just focused on giving you everything that you *need* to know and the things that we’ve been asked most about or we’ve seen floating around from more than a few people.

While we don’t have ALL of the answers, we can tell you what we do know to hopefully help everyone out just a little bit more than what you came here knowing!

Let’s start with…

The Christmas Situation + Refunds

As you all know, we had been keeping a running post the progress the Backstreet Boys were making with their Christmas album earlier this year. Despite announcing that they had wrapped vocals on the album in July and selling tickets to a holiday-themed Vegas residency, the group made the announcement on September 10th that the album would not be completed in time and therefore, they were pushing it to the next holiday season (2022). This also meant cancelling the Vegas shows.

If you were holding BSB Christmas Party Tickets, this is what you need to know:

  • As of the time of this post (October 6th), no one (that we are aware of) has received a ticket refund.
  • The initial cancellation email from Ticketmaster said it would take up to 30 days for a refund to hit. In our experience with other cancelled concerts, we have gotten an email 7-10 days prior to the refund hitting our account to give us a heads up.
  • The refund will be automatic as the shows were cancelled and not postponed.

The DNA Tour and BSB NFTs

Some of us bought DNA World Tour tickets for 2020. When it was postponed to 2021, some bought more.

Then it was postponed to 2022. While ticket buyers were given an option to request a refund when the Boys announced the latest postponement, they were also told that if they chose to keep their tickets, an NFT would be issued as a “thanks”, essentially.

That was the first time that most of us had heard the NFT term. Since then, we’ve heard a lot more about them, thanks to Nick. Have we learned much? No. Not really.

If you are interested, The Verge did a good job in explaining NFTs in conversational form. Essentially, an NFT is just a way of the “artist” giving you ownership rights for whatever you purchase from the online marketplace. An NFT, essentially, is like purchasing rights to an original piece of art with a “digital autograph” (code) that makes it unique. It’s basically a way for you to support an artist. If you sell your NFT (maybe not in this instance), the original artist still profits. It’s an easy way for artists and creators to sell a piece of work that they don’t otherwise have a place for.

All of that being said, there has been MAJOR confusion about the BSB NFTs. Here is the basics of what you need to know:

  • If you kept your DNA North American Tour ticket (from the U.S. or Canada), you will receive an email. You can find more information about what you can do with the NFT here, but basically…it’s just a video for you to have and watch and enjoy until tour time.
  • THE MEET AND GREET NFT: This has absolutely caused the biggest question. After NFT emails started rolling out, the Backstreet Boys social accounts posted that a select few (FIVE PEOPLE) will be getting a second NFT (AT RANDOM) and left without any other explanation. So, this is what we’ve figured out:
    • Although you may see the “rare” What Are The Chances M&G NFT under “View All BSB NFTs” at the link, this does not mean that YOU have it. It simply means that these are the only things that the Backstreet Boys are offering as NFTs.
    • You can see YOUR NFT(s) by clicking ‘My NFTs’. While the number beside it might be more than one, it still doesn’t mean that you have gotten the M&G NFT. It’s likely that you’ve gotten the video NFT more than once because you’ve bought tickets for multiple tour dates. If this were something you’d want to sell, that would be beneficial to you.
    • If you are still confused about where to see YOUR NFT vs. everything that’s offered, make sure that your web address says “bsb.live-nfts.com/wallet” and not “bsb.live-nfts.com/explore”
    • We know that the “rare” NFT says that you have to redeem by July 20, 2022. That doesn’t mean that if your tour date is in September that you’re ineligible. It just means you have to REDEEM it for any date by then.
    • UPDATE (10/7): The 5 NFTs have been assigned. You can find them by clicking here and clicking “View NFT…” at the bottom of the page.
  • Just because you only have the one NFT right now does not necessarily mean you won’t get the other. Like we said, we’re not sure that anyone has gotten these yet. Hang tight!

We will be updating this post with any answers we have missed, so shoot us a tweet or an email if you’re still confused! We’ll do what we can to get you the answers.
