10 Things Backstreet Fans Should Probably Stop Doing

Alllllright, everyone! We’re going to get back into the fun stuff soon, but first, some real talk.

Every one of you that reads WHOTB on the regular knows that we love the Boys and we love all of you reading this. Sometimes though, some things need to be said and things need to get real. We’re laying it out here – most of the things that people talk about in private, the things that we wear each other down with, etc. We say it so we can all move on to a positive place. We are opening the discussion. We are not pointing fingers, we are not saying anyone is right or wrong and we’re not telling anyone what to do, but we are suggesting that for us to all work together to make the Boys’ 25th year the best one yet – for them and for us – we need to shift for a better future.

(Also, this is not us being high and mighty – AT ALL. We’re guilty of some of these things too and we’re working really hard to change them.)

1. Stop doubting the Backstreet Boys, their team, and their intentions.

giphy6

We’re not saying you have to like their time table or the fact that things are usually delayed, but do you 100% think the Backstreet Boys and their team are “out to get you” with the words they say and things they put out there?

We don’t.

How many times do you go into work feeling super productive, tell someone that you’re going to do something, then get sidetracked or change your mind about the way you want to go about it? A lot, if you’re being honest. The BSB and co. are juggling hundreds of worldwide balls that we’re not even aware of, so cut them some slack. We all miss them when they’re doing other things, but we have all the faith that they ARE working on things for eventual release. Still, everyone is only human.

2. Stop acting like we know everything all the time.

giphy7

….Which brings us to this point. We, as fans, do not know every single thing all the time. We might know something Kevin, Brian, Howie, AJ or Nick has said, but refer to #1 — sometimes that’s not the complete and final truth. It starts rumors, it incites spite, and generally, no one plays well with someone who acts like they have some kind of higher knowledge than everyone else. If it’s something you’re not supposed to say publicly, then don’t.

Unless, of course, you’re using info to make the BSB look better to your naysayer friends – then, by all means, KNOW EVERYTHING AND USE IT AS A POWER. They won’t know the difference.

3. Stop talking about things so negatively, so publicly.

giphy8

You know how you get mad at your family but if anyone else talks shit, you defend them? Same goes for the Backstreet Boys. 99% of us are going to defend them if anyone else talks badly about them, but about 45% of us are putting those things out there to begin with.

Why do you want to talk so badly about a group that you spend hard earned money to take a vacation to see? A group that works hard to keep making music because fans have asked for it? A group that tries to listen to what fans want and tries their best to meet those demands? Of course everyone gets the occasional frustration, but running them into the ground at low points, only to relish in their success and expect everyone else to love them at high points seems a little counterproductive, right?

4. Stop targeting other fans without reason.

giphy9

We’re not saying you have to like everyone because we totally get personalities that don’t jive. We’re saying if you don’t like someone, move along. No need to spread your distaste for other fans, without reason. If they’re not impeding your opportunities, hurting your or someone else, spreading rumors, etc. …leave people alone! Don’t be a Regina George.

If you have a legit reason and other fans need to know, stay lowkey and factual.

5. Stop making other fans feel guilty about what you can’t do.

giphy10

On the flip side of #4, please be mindful of how much you talk about what you can’t do and being mad because other fans “have it so easy”. We totally understand that it sucks to not be able to see the Backstreet Boys for days, weeks, months or years.

We get that it’s easier for us in the U.S. to see them more often.

We get that some of us don’t have husbands, children, houses, etc. and can afford more. We get that some of us have those things and CAN afford it. It’s situational.

But there are also people that work multiple full time jobs to be able to afford what they do. There are people that travel across the country / world to see concerts because that’s what they want to do. There are people that choose to spend their time and money going to see the Boys because that is what makes them happy.

LET PEOPLE LIVE. It’s okay to be sad or jealous or irritated, but don’t take it out on others.

6. Stop making demands everytime one of the Boys breathe.

giphy11

They know we want them in our individual countries, in our towns, in our homes, in our backyards, in our beds, etc.

They know we’re waiting for new music.

They know we want tour when they’re promoting Vegas, that we want Vegas when they’re talking about a cruise, that we want whatever they’re not doing at the very second.

If AJ is tweeting about his fried chicken, stop replying with something irrelevant about where you want to see him next. Tell him how good his fried chicken looks and tweet about what you want another time. If Nick tweets about his pumpkins, don’t respond with a tweet tagging your 87 friends who all have birthdays today.

Who can blame the Boys for shying away from interactions on socials when all fans are doing is telling them what we want ALL. THE. TIME. We have to start acting like humans communicating with other humans to get back to a good place. Have a conversation!

…Then we can make gentle demands again. Heh.

BUT STOP ASKING ABOUT “SPOTLIGHT”.

7. Stop complaining.

giphy12

About everything. If you don’t like the way something is run, don’t go. If you think it could be done better, lay out your constructive criticism with a productive plan to go along with it and get it in from of the right people.

Don’t be a firestarter. Don’t complain for the sake of hearing other people complaining and then not do anything about it.

8. Stop second guessing whether you should go to events or not.

giphy13

YOLO. Seriously.

9. Stop feeling bad when you can’t go.

giphy14

IT IS OKAY! We know that FOMO is the WORST, but so is PCD, so you’ll deal with the feels one way or another. Everyone has different priorities and that’s okay. The Backstreet Boys aren’t going anywhere. So you miss a few things – when you DO get to go to something, it’s going to be even better. Because you earned it. You worked for it. Trust us.

10. Stop right now…. and think what a great time it is to be a fan!

giphy15

THINK ABOUT IT.

Vegas.

Collaborations with other genres.

Appearances on TV shows.

An upcoming album.

An upcoming world tour.

A cruise.

25 years together.

ALL FIVE ORIGINAL MEMBERS.

They know some of our names. They know some of our faces.

We’re in this for the long haul guys and we only want it to get better. Join us in committing to make 2018 the BEST year for all of Backstreetdom. We’re super hyped!

In the words of Taylor Swift, are you ready for it?

7 Things We’d Love To See On The Next Backstreet Boys Album

A new Backstreet Boys album is coming. We don’t know when exactly, but it’s definitely within the next 365 days!

We’re anxiously awaiting any hint of what direction the new music will be going and the anticipation is getting to us. To perhaps diffuse some of our energy about it, we’ve decided to throw out a few ideas about things that we would LOVE to see next.

1. A Song To Dance To.

Sure, there’s been a faster-paced song on the majority of albums, but we need another “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)”. We need something FUN. A real feel good tune that we can blast on the way to the concert or dance around to on the next cruise. We’d love for the Boys to meet some bass, to be honest. WE WANT TO FEEL IT IN OUR BONES (excuse that-other-guy reference). The rest of the album can be mid-tempo and ballads that we have come to know and love….but just one….

2. A Solid Wedding Song.

For some of us, the days of the Backstreet Boys being the only men in our lives is gone. We’ve settled for second best and found someone to start a family with…since the Boys crushed our hopes of it ever being one of them. SIGH.

But I digress.

Sure, we have “Drowning”, but most of the best BSB love songs are mid-tempo and not something you can dance your first dance to easily – unless you’re one of those choreographed super couples. C’mon KevinBrianHowieAJNick, GIVE US OPTIONS OTHER THAN ED SHEERAN.

3. A New Duet.

….Unless you’d like to record a duet with Ed Sheeran. Drool.

The success of the unexpected FGL + BSB collaboration has us thinking and pining for a new collab. We love that the Boys have gotten their foot in the country door and since we’re now spoiled to such appearances, we’re looking at other country acts ORRRR current Top 40 artists.

And if you think we’re letting our dream of a Kelly Clarkson + BSB duet go, you are WRONG. Just the thought of that much talent on one track makes us eargasm.

(Here are some other suggestions)

4. Equal Parts.

Nothing more to this than we love all five being featured somewhere on the album. Gone are the days of petitioning for Kevin and Howie to sing more leads because they finally got the message!

5. A Crossover.

It wouldn’t be the worst thing if we could hear the Backstreet Boys on the radio again – even if it IS in a different genre. Remember the country version of “Drowning”? Now that the association has accepted them, maybe it’s not a bad idea to release a pop and country version of something new! (Please don’t comment negatively about this)

6. A New Anthem.

We all know “Larger Than Life” was for the fans, but we’re in need of something new. We’d love to hear a sort of anthem that speaks to fans, honors the Boys’ history together, and what a trip this has all been. It could be on the album or it could be a bonus track for the Fan Club perhaps, but something to get us pumped, something to make us feel the feels, and something that makes us all excited to hear it. It IS the 25th anniversary after all.

7. Anything That Brings On A New Tour, Honestly.

We love Las Vegas. We love the one off shows. We love anything our Boys are doing.

But there’s nothing better than a tour, amiright?

5 Things That Happen When Your Favorite Boyband Member Gets Engaged

Forgive us, this post is not strictly limited to the Backstreet Boys, but trust us, most of you will relate. Remember a few years ago when you were young and convinced that you would go to a concert, a Backstreet Boy would spot you in the 12th row (you know because you counted 100 times because a number sounds closer than a letter) and immediately fall in love with you. Cue the fireworks!

As we all know NOW, that’s not how it happens – despite what our moms tried to tell us. In light of the crushing blow that Joe Jonas has delivered to fangirls around the world today by becoming engaged and the 2nd Jonas Brother off the market (remember when our numbers kept dwindling?!), we decided that a post walking us back through the painful experience was necessary to let all fans know that we are all in this together / have been there before. It gets better eventually.

Kind of.

Maybe.

With therapy.

1. First, your world will spin in a weird way.

giphy

“[Insert coveted boyband member’s name here] has announced that he is engaged to longtime girlfriend, [insert name of girl you say you care nothing about but know everything about and follow on every social platform here].”

Woah. Even if you knew it was coming, the words are still a shock. Are you numb? Are you happy? Are you suddenly feeling drunk without drinking? Are you palms sweating? WHY DID HE NOT WARN YOU?

2. You’ll act like you’re fine because you’re a functioning adult.

giphy1

It’s fiiiiiiiiiiiinnee. I’m fiinnneeee. So happy for them! (You say as you dig your nails into your steering wheel on the way to the liquor store)

If honestly does not even matter if you’re married or single, you’ll have the same knee jerk reaction. It’s fine for you to be off the market, but aren’t you supposed to be able to vote in a TRL sort of way whether or not your favorite member can get married or not? Weren’t you supposed to help pick out the ring? WASN’T IT SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR RING?

3. Go online. You need a support group.

giphy2

Everyone knows that if you’re feeling a sort of way, your fan friends are too. Don’t have fan friends? This is the perfect time to make them! There’s some great bonding to be done in the emotional wrecks that losing our faves to another woman make us become. Take it to the DMs though – you may regret what your feelings of loss make you say in the heat of the moment.

4. Feelings will be hard. So hard.

giphy3

The fiance is usually a really great woman and you’re all for girl power. Up until engagement day, you probably genuinely liked every one of her posts on social media, thought she was a great catch, and ‘awww’-ed over pics of the happy couple.

But engagement – woah – whole new level outside of the controlled environment that you’re used to. I mean, this is a big life change – for you AND for him AND for her. Up until now, there might still be hypothetical room for you to move in for a second or two, but NOW….nowwwww….this is hard.

While you want to be happy for them (and you WILL wish them ‘all the best’ yada yada), you’re going to be petty for a day …or week…or month…or year or two.

5. You’ll get over it and the sun will rise again!

giphy4

Once you get over the fact that she isn’t you and realize that most of the boyband fiances and wives are actually cooler than the boyband member at times, you’ll forget the feelings you once harbored.

Ok, you won’t FORGET…but you’ll find it in your heart to forgive. You’ll live with the fact that if it wasn’t going to be you, she was the 2nd best choice. And when you realize he’s happy, —LONG SIGH— you’ll be happy too.

You will also most likely spend the wedding day drunk, offline, and in bed. That’s cool too. It happens to the best of us. 😉

Things are going to be okay. Tours will continue. Albums (and really cute babies) will be made and we’ll ALL be one big happy family. Actually, their happiness has made things better all around. At least that’s how it’s gone of the Backstreet side of things.

Best wishes, fellow fangirls. We’re with you. We’ve been there and we’ve made it through (most of us without restraining orders).

giphy5

DISCLAIMER: This is all in good humor. We are adults. We know not EVERYONE feels / felt this way. We are obviously very happy for all of the Backstreet Boys and all married boyband members. No need to tweet, comment, etc. about how you were always happy for the couples — we get it. 🙂

What’s Happening On The Backstreet: September 2017 – October 8, 2017

We know, we know – we said weekly update. Simply put, in the month of September, there weren’t enough things going on for the Boys that warranted such frequent updates. The Backstreet Boys took a bit of a break and so did we.

But we’re back! And they will be too in a few weeks (Are you ready, Singapore? You’re first!). If you guys are still with us, HEY! Welcome back! Thank you for hanging in there and for loving + supporting Kevin, Howie, Brian, Nick and AJ as much as we do. Are you ready for all the things? Because these men are about to GIVE. IT. TO. YOU.

WHO’S EXCITED?!

Here’s a roundup for a few of the most important things + WHOTB posts you might have missed in the past month:

Happy Birthday, Kevin: Some Of Our Favorite Kevin Richardson Moments On Video

Another October 3rd, another birthday for Kevin Richardson! As always, we love celebrating this amazing man.

We’ve asked for your reasons why you love him and reflected on everything that he has been for us, but this year – we wanted visuals! We asked you to send in your favorite Kevin moment captured in a video or GIF and that’s exactly what you sent us.

Enjoy all of the best and sweetest moments below as we celebrate another trip around the sun for the one and only Mr. Richardson!

20170624_215544“Here’s the photo of Kevin I took from Vegas. I like this picture because Kevin and AJ were actually having a mini dance off on the catwalk, each showcasing their best moves! And we all know that Kevin has some great moves! The man feels the groove.” – Erin Henderson

“Everytime he says ‘sexy time’ in that accent!” – Hilda Puente

“This my most favorite Kevin moment because after he left the group for a while, this was the very first time that he was seen with the boys singing again, and the year after this tour they have announced that Kevin was back in the group. Bsb will never be the same without Kevin so I’m very happy that he came back where his heart and passion belongs to.” – Mikay Ganaden

“My BSB part of my soul came back to life because Kevin was returning! My wish came true! I had been really sad, and I thought they would never be together again…And, now, the boys could make more music together. AND my second wish came true in 2013. Right now, I’m waiting for my third wish: to meet them and go see them in Vegas (that’s my fourth wish XD.” – Carmen Puentes

” Kevin’s return!!!! ️I don’t think this needs description, and I’m sure it’s what many of the fans picked for their favorite ‘Kevin moment’- but when I saw this video, I cried. Absolutely sobbed. So thankful he is back- as a Kevin girl, it wasn’t BSB without him. I got emotional just watching this again to make sure it was the right video!” – Allison Chickering

“Kevin and Brian speaking with the helium.” – Hilda Puente

“I don’t know if this is my favorite Kev moment, but is one of the most important on my mind. This GIF is from Viña del Mar Festival, when the boys sang on February 14th, 1998. That was the first time they played in my country, Chile, and I can remember everything of that occasion: since I heard the news and I started to scream and cry with my older sister, until we saw them on TV with our best friend, also a BSB fan. My parents couldn’t afford the travel to another city to see them live or buy tickets for my sister and me, so we stayed at home and watched on TV. We even recorded on a VCR!

Until this day, that show is one of the most remembered presentation in the festival, because the boys came when they were BIG and that’s a difficult thing to our country. Next year will be 20 years since that night! We wanted to bring them back to celebrate. So… that’s why I chose this memory! Happy Bday, Kev! :)” – Karina Mondaca

“My first time in a BSB show! I’m a huge fan since 1998 but only in 2015 I had my chance! He’s the best person, my fav! And his eyes can easily break my heart bahaha NAILED AND COMPLETELY FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM!” – Isis Galbiatti

“Because I will never forget the amazing experience of being on stage with Kevin on the cruise in 2016. He was also very sweet during rehearsals. When I bumped into him 10 minutes after boarding the ship and when I was on stage during game night, he recognized me from the video I entered for the singing contest. What a great guy with endless love for all fans!” – Suzanne Rhebergen

tumblr_olra74mYKk1qcela8o3_250

“This is my fave Kev moment cause this is when BSB filmed their first music video, Kevin was acting so cute and smooth while playing to the camera. Happy Birthday Kevin!” – Kyanna

Watch video here – It is blocked in some countries.

“It started at around 1:20 something when this fan showed up near the stage with a huge bouquet of flowers for Kevin. Others would probably just take it, thank the fan or wave a bit and leave, but this guy right here he knelt, hugged and even kissed the girl’s cheek. It wasn’t even a brief hug, it was a bear hug that lasted a few seconds. I’m sure he teared up a bit because we all know how emotional he is. He’s amazing, this guy.”  – Sasa

giphy (4)

“I love everything about Kevin!! Knowing how he likes to get it perfect at rehearsals, and for him to just be goofy like this, it’s my (one of my many) fave moment!! Thanks for being you!! Hope to meet you someday! Happy Birthday! Hope you enjoy your day! Love you!” – Kristin Luna

“I mean come on……can you ever get enough of Kevin dancing? Especially like that.” – Kyleigh

“1:47 to 1:56. That smirk makes me melt.” – Andie

“So this performance is hands down my favorite performance of all the guys. They are absolute perfection!  When I think of things I like about Kevin, I always think of how emotional he gets. That part of him touches me so much. When his part comes at 2:57 and he holds back tears, and can barely get through the lyrics, I lose it and start crying everytime!” – Anne

“On the 2014 cruise my room was in their hall, about 5 doors down. We saw them pass by all the time. Before the ABC party, he offered some memorable wardrobe advice, which I of course followed!” – Laura Fu

Our favorite moment with Kevin wasn’t captured on video, but in real life. Read about it here.

Happy Birthday, Kevin Richardson – you’re a classic.

If You’re Thinking About Backing Out of #BSBVegas, Please Don’t (+ How You Can Help)

By now, you have surely heard about the extremely tragic, deplorable, heartbreaking events that took place at Route 91 Music Festival in Las Vegas. If you haven’t, you can keep up to date here.

We are absolutely heartbroken for everyone involved – those injured, the families of those who have been senselessly killed, the family of the shooter / terrorist, the fans, the artists who were there and the people of Las Vegas, whose home has been rocked by this act of terrorism.

There are so many of us who have visited this beautiful city this year. We’ve made memories, we’ve met friends, and we’ve been protected and allowed to enjoy the Backstreet Boys in a safe space. We can’t thank the police and first responders enough for all the hard work that they do – not just during this massacre, but all the time.

With that being said, we’ve seen several people who are wary to attend their already planned concerts. We’ve seen people that are looking to cancel their trips that they were so excited to embark on less than 24 hours ago. To those people, we are urging you to please continue.

This is not about the Backstreet Boys themselves, but about rising up against what this terrorist wanted. If we let someone’s despicable acts deter us from living our lives, going to concerts, going outside – what kind of life is that? Please do not live in fear. Please do not let someone / something dictate how you continue to live. We owe it to ourselves. We owe it to the city of Las Vegas, who depends on entertainment to keep their economy thriving. Above all, we can not let terror win us over. Unfortunately, this could happen anywhere – we can not stop living.

The staff and security at Planet Hollywood have been WONDERFUL and we are positive that they will continue to be as great at their jobs, if not greater, than they were before today.

For now, our hearts, prayers, and positive vibes are with Vegas and those who need it. We will keep this post updated with all of the best ways to help and more. The greatest need right now is blood. Please see below locations if you are in or around the area.

If you’re currently in Las Vegas, please mark yourself as safe here.
