12 Signs You Have Chronic Nick Carter Syndrome

For 22 years now, Nick Carter has grown up and on us. You may have caught it earlier or you may not have caught it until he went solo. You may JUST now be catching it after resisting for so long. What am I talking about? Chronic Nick Carter Syndrome, or CNCS for short. If you’re going through this list and freaking out thinking, “Oh my God! This is me!”, rest assured that you are not alone.

1. You Can’t Read Anyone’s Emotions If Their Eyebrows Aren’t Moving Erratically.

Since day one, whether consciously or subconsciously, Nick’s eyebrows speak to us. They are the most perfect part of his face and he uses them to communicate more than he uses his mouth. If have CNCS, you judge any man that doesn’t communicate to you with his eyebrows. Nick Carter has ruined you. Your boyfriend is saying he’s angry, but his eyebrows don’t quite say that sooo…

2. You Get Unreasonably Excited About Camo Shorts / Pants.

IMG_2123

For years, Nick has had an assortment (we choose to believe their is more than one pair) of camo pants and shorts. 95% of Backstreet Boys fans with an affinity for camo have been diagnosed with CNCS. Those with the syndrome have actual turned-on reactions to camo, on or off of Nick, simply because he lived in them for days at a time.

3. You See Kevin… And Automatically Look For Nick.

B_LuM51VIAMcxWj.jpg_large

If you have CNCS, you basically see Kevin Richardson as a means to get to Nick. It is well known that Nick might be Kevin’s biggest fan (constantly reiterating for 6 years in Kevin’s absence that the door was ALWAYS open for him to return) and it is likely that where Mr.Richardson is, Nick is not far behind. There is also a good chance that if you can’t see physically see the sun Nick, it’s because Kevin and his height are blocking him. Always. Look. To Kevin.

4. You Follow The Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Just So You Know What Nick Is Ranting About.

You may not watch a day of football in your life, but you will follow the Bucs just so you understand what Nick is tweeting about. You may even watch their games just to predict when Nick is going to tweet (especially if it’s your birthday – priorities). If all else fails and you are in a drought of Nick Carter acknowledgement, you will Google the crap out of anything Bucs related and tweet it to Nick until he acknowledges you. The syndrome is real.

5. If You See Nick Tweet About Hair, You Panic.

As we discussed in the post about how the world shakes when Nick changes his hair, anyone with CNCS is emotionally invested in Nick’s hair and any change it makes. What question can anyone inflicted with Chronic Nick Carter Syndrome answer faster than anything else? Which hairstyle they prefer on Mr. Carter’s head. Some prefer long, some prefer the 90s hair that made a comeback this year, and some prefer the spiky…but everyone does have an opinion about any of it. You don’t like Nick’s current hair style? No worries, you will when he’s done with you.

6. If You See Anything About Aliens, Hairless Cats, Pugs, Squatting…You Think Of Nick.

Nick has a vast array of odd obsessions and likes and CNCSers know them all.

Any meme with a pug – send it to Nick.

Any fact about hairless cats – send it to Nick.

Any new alien discovery – suggest you go into space with him.

Hear Nick say Lauren can squat him – tell him that should be an event on the cruise, “Who can squat Nick Carter?”

MUST. GET. NICK’S. ATTENTION.

7. You Get Sick Everytime You Go To A Backstreet Boys / Nick Carter Event.

images (1)

It is no secret that Nick spends every other week on tour being sick. If you have Chronic Nick Carter Syndrome, you are most likely going to get as close to Nick as you can at any event. This most likely means that you will be sick within a week and you will most definitely blame Nick Carter. It’s basically a badge of honor. It’s a rite of passage in any Nick fan’s life.

8. Your Phone Is Full Of Nick Pics For Every Occasion.

c5662c371ae2d46aa861dfdfdca61111

If Nick posts anything remotely hot, which to you, is everything, you have it saved on your phone. You actually had to buy a memory card for your phone to make room for all of your Nick (and occasionally those other four guys) pictures. If he tweets you or acknowledges your existence? Well, you’re going to need a whole separate phone. You’ll take screenshots, back up screenshots, replies, favorites, retweets…THIS IS EVERYTHING.

9. You’ve Blown Off Very Important Things Because Nick Was Tweeting.

Maybe you called in sick. Maybe you cancelled your date. Maybe you had to pull over from a busy interstate because NICK WAS TWEETING HIS FANS. For CNCS victims, this event is like the Olympics. They sweat, they cry, and their is a secret gold medal in the form of 23 screenshots if you get a tweet.

10. You Know The Year Of A Performance Based On Nick’s Hair.

Nick’s life has been a carousel of hair changes (A hairousel?) and anyone with CNCS will be able to identify the year of a performance simply because of his hairstyle. We’re not sure if Nick changes intentionally with every album cycle or he likes to keep things spicy, but we do know that his hair, above all hair, causes fandom meltdown.

11. Nick Posts A Shirtless Selfie And You Don’t Recover for 48 Hours.

Admit it, you still blush when you see oats and you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. We were all deprived of shirtless Nick for so long then BAM!! He’s flaunting it all over the place and the CNCS just gained another symptom. And you need a drool mop.

12. At The End Of The Day, You’re Going To Support Him On Anything.

Backstreet projects, solo projects, movies, books, fitness… Those with the syndrome love it all. Actually, those without the syndrome love it all. Nick Carter is a national treasure and we’re all victims, really… In the best way possible.

60 Thoughts You’ll Have While Watching The “Anywhere For You” Music Video

1. In the first 3 seconds, we see the Boys on the beach and we’re excited. In the next second, we realize they have clothes on.

2. What are these seagulls?? Do they know whose shot they are blocking?

3. If this video was in 2015, Kevin would have that collar POPPED like a boss. Not tucked into his sweater.

4. Why are they a) wearing long sleeves on a beach, b) wearing so many layers of long sleeves on the beach? Did they have chicken pox? Run out of sunscreen?

5. Brian’s “jacket/sweater/robe” is straight from the Bible.

6. Brian REALLY stands out with the blue. Did he not get the black and white on the beach memo? Thank GOD he got the 30 layers of clothes memo….

7. In this video, Howie and Brian have joined the dramatic arms game.

8. They are standing all on separate rocks so that their drama arms don’t hit.

9. The Backstreet Beach Birds just keep multiplying throughout this video. Did they pay these seagulls?

10. At 0:32, why is Nick’s mouth moving for words/noise he doesn’t even sing?

11. At 0:37, why is Nick running into Howie? It all started so early.

12. Can Kevin really see anything with his hair hitting his eyeballs?

13. Oh, look at Brian! Still the only one with a colorful sweater.

14. Is anyone else SERIOUSLY confused about where we are right now? Beach, rocks…. Bonfire?

15. OH YEAH! Shirts are off! Well, except for Nick and his mushroom hair…

16. Ummm, is that Lou Pearlman selling Howie a balloon? Or is he giving Howie a balloon to entice him? Awkward.

17. Are Brian and Nick looking on jealously? They want balloons.

18. Oh wait, Howie flirts with girls by buying them balloons? Niceeee..

19. Is anyone else weirded out that AJ just showed up out of nowhere once the girl started walking toward him? AJ and those ladies, y’all.

20. There’s not enough time to even talk about everything Nick is wearing throughout this video.

21. Anyone else feel like this video is basically Nick, Brian, and Howie? A little Beatle Kevin.

22. Ok, no, seriously…WHAT is this sweater vest thing Nick is wearing? Does he even know?

23. Count the times the Boys use their hands to gesture to “you” in this video and make it a drinking game. You’ll be drunk in less than a minute.

24. Everyone pause at 1:11, WHAT is going on with Brian and that balloon?! The string is wrapped around his head and his looks like a cat stuck in a bag..

25. ….No one cares. Howie is checking out another girl, wondering if she’ll settle for a football instead of a balloon.

26. Brian’s had enough with the walking. He’s take a seat on the beach…as are the Backstreet Beach Birds.

27. Oh hey! There’s AJ. Grand total of 4 times!

28. 1:20 – why is Brian turning away from the girl so quick? Did she steal his ice cream? Did he try to steal hers? Why is everyone else watching like creeps?

29. Kevin and Nick are both checking out ice cream girl. BUSTED.

30. 1:25, Kevin is so poetic looking.

31. Oh ok, tired of walking. Going to ride bicycles now. Cool.

32. Side note: These bicycle outfits are the most weather appropriate things they’ve worn in one minute and 27 seconds of video.

33. Kevin’s so cool. LOOK MOM, NO HANDS.

4-AnywhereForYou (2)

34. Oh hey Brian…you’ve got a girl on your back.

35. What group of girls SKATE among five bicycles?!

36. The boys are literally biking away from them…this is a chase!

37. How does Kevin keep switching sides? Nick or Brian, Kevin! PICK ONE! We all had to!

4-AnywhereForYou

38. Oh no, Brian got the girl back on him. Hey! Isn’t that Howie’s balloon girl??

39. WHO skates on the back of someone’s bike? WHOSE idea was this??

40. 1:38 – Why are Kevin and Howie both flailing for no reason? Was there a large bee?

41. Oh, now we’re sitting on the beach like normals. No sweaters, no problem. Also, no Backstreet Birds!

42. Who are these girls?! Why were the Boys trying to pick them up and now they can’t be left alone?

43. Pretty sure the balloon girl, you know Brian’s skate chaser, is the one in Howie’s face with a camera. This isn’t awkward.

44. We were sure they were dressed normally now…..then Brian showed up with his wetsuit.

45. Nick almost took Brian’s head off with his drama hands.

46. Balloon skating girl has moved onto Nick. Playa gonna play.

47. Bunch of hot guys playing volleyball behind these guys that just decided to sit in a circle and sing to no one specific about going anywhere for them.

48. 2:15 – Don’t be distracted by shirtless Brian, pretty sure a bird just fell from the sky at the end of the shot. Suicidal Backstreet Bird.

49. Shirtless. Brian.

50. Hey! There’s AJ again!

51. Nick and Kevin with the head bobbing in this video…

52. 2:33 – Are they about to form a conga line?

53. Brian standing on his toes to sing “See, yeah!” is so cute and I’m not sure why.

54. If you pause on AJ’s face at any time, he looks like you’ve offended him.

55. Is Nick even old enough to be seeing a girl in a bikini like that?

56. The amount of times Kevin tries to steal the video by biking with no hands is unbelievable really.

57. Who plays volleyball with a beachball? Backstreet Boys.

58. Seriously, how long is this beach that they are STILL walking?

59. Was their supposed to be a random speedboat in the background? Did they just show up at the beach one day to shoot this?

60. Conclusion: The Backstreet Boys will go anywhere for you….if by anywhere, you mean this really long beach, some beach rocks, bicycling, sitting on another part of a beach, or joining them around a “bonfire” (We never actually saw it.)

3 Iconic Backstreet Boys Dances: Then and Now

There are not many bands that have lasted the test of time, much less their dances. As we all know, the Backstreet Boys have been an exception to most every rule in the standard music world and there are pieces of their choreography that have withstood the test of time.

1. Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)

….Yeeaaaah. (Admit it, you already said that in your head as soon as you read Everybody. Either that, or ALRIGHT, if you have Brian syndrome) The iconic “Everybody” dance has been in existence since 1997 when the Thriller-esque video first dropped. Since then, the dance, while sometimes punched up and a little different, has been a part of every Backstreet Boys tour and there is not ONE girl from the ’90s that doesn’t know at least part of the dance. To be honest, there’s not many guys that don’t know part of the dance either. Let us take you back…and forth. Rock your body right, you know?

The Video

1998 Performance

2014 Performance

The dance is actually such a part of pop culture that it was featured in the “heaven” scene of This Is The End.

2. As Long As You Love Me

While the song is instantly recognizable, the choreography is something that fans are affectionate about. The movement for this dance is nowhere near the level of “Everybody”, but we can’t help but love the little dances behind the microphones. What we’d REALLY love though…is to BRING BACK THAT CHAIR DANCE, BOYS!

3. All I Have To Give

Again, definitely not an “Everybody” dance, but our weakness for the hats. We’ll admit we love watching it live to see who drops his hat first… but we’re all so hypnotized by it. Everytime.

55 Thoughts You’ll Have While Watching The “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” Video

As Backstreet Boys fans, music videos have been the essence of every single that they have ever released. Some videos were iconic, some videos were hot, and some videos made us think we were losing our minds. Our music video series will feature the thoughts we have all had while watching Backstreet Boys’ videos – the good, the bad, and the… WTF.

1. Who is Hildi, the midday mistress?! Is she real? (Actually, she is. She’s Google-able and is an “iconic” Orlando radio personality)

2. Brian looks like a baby bear with his “fist pumps”

3. Did anyone ACTUALLY call him “the brokster”?

4. Why does Howie sound SO Spanish? Is that something he does when he’s nervous? Did the wink become a replacement for his sudden Spanish?

5. “Hi, this is NICK.” No nickname or last initial needed, but some HEAVY pronunciation. Get that everyone? NICK.

6. Nick Carter has always spoken with his eyebrows.

7. Who told them to talk like this? “A-JAY!”

8. Kevin actually sounds like he sounds now.

9. We’re pretty sure “Woohoo” isn’t a response to “tell us about your video”. Neither is all talking over at once and then just singing the song. Glad they figured that out.

10. Wait. How did they go from sharing ONE mic in a tiny room to having three?

11. Were they separated by height? Or is Kevin with Nick to keep him from breaking things?

12. Woah! Now we’re on a stage.

13. Three AJs could fit in one of his sweaters.

14. Were leather and jean vests ever REALLY a thing? Or just a Backstreet thing?

15. Pretty sure that drop to the floor and thrust was the earliest recorded inspiration for Magic Mike.

16. And suddenly Brian is singing in a gym….then washing his car with Nick and a girl. While dressed like they are going to play basketball.

17. Brian looks a little pissed the whole time. I don’t blame him. He’s in three places at once and he obviously just wants to play basketball.

18. Meanwhile, AJ gets to sing in music-appropriate places.

19. YAY! Brian gets to go play with Nick! (Which is clearly what he was dressed for in the first place.)

20. HOW DID THEY GET IN THE WOODS?

21. Back to the gym. Back to outside (not in the woods). Back to basketball. Seriously. Whiplash.

22. Oh no! Carwash girl (Fun fact: Brian’s girlfriend at the time) JUST realized he’s not helping her wash the car anymore. Tsk, tsk, Brian. Is that why you’re in the woods?

23. At 1:44, why is Kevin WAY down in the left corner? The tallest member is suddenly peeking out like he’s 4 foot.

24. Why is Nick wearing a shirt under his jersey like that’s the thing to do?

25. Uh oh. Brian is caught. CUT TO AJ, CUT TO AJ.

26. There is literally so many arm flailing dance moves throughout this whole video.

27. 1:59, Brian knows he’s in trouble. Nick stares at carwash girl like he wishes he was in trouble. Or like he’s Pinky from Pinky and The Brain.

28. “Ruthless when I get wet” is actually about Brian getting sprayed in the face because he didn’t wash the car…DUH. It all makes sense.

29. The main reason for Nick and Kevin in this video? To have attitude faces in the background. Duck face. WERK. (Also, if you screen cap Nick or Kevin at any point in this video, their faces are something to behold. See above.)

30. We’re not sure why AJ is now playing pool. “My verse is done…going to play now…”

31. Why is every girl in this video wearing a tied white shirt?

32. 2:21, WHAT SONG IS KEVIN SINGING?! It is NOT the one he’s supposed to be singing.

33. Brian and Howie aren’t singing the right one either.

34. Oh hey Howie in leather vest, welcome to the video.

35. 2:29. Kevin weight lifting. Fans rejoice.

36. 2:35. Kevin does his sassy arms and head nod. We want to go back to the weight lifting ASAP.

37. AWWWWW, YEAH. The water on Kevin’s head…The only reason that anyone watches this video anymore, really.

38. Hey! There’s that Howie guy again. Dancing with the ladies!

39. Now Kevin is riding a motorcycle. “We aren’t telling you what to sing or even letting you sing, but you get to be a TOTAL beefcake macho man, ok?”

40. Again with the arms…

41. Now suddenly there’s NO mics in the studio and LOU PEARLMAN is there?

42. Oh, excuse Kevin while he checks his BEEPER and uses a LANDLINE phone. Must be that girl on his motorcycle 15 seconds ago.

43. While Kevin makes a call, Howie decides to play video games. No big deal.

44. While Howie plays video games, Brian also makes a phone call. On a cellular device. That he apparently wouldn’t let Kevin use.

45. LOOK AT THE ANTENNA ON BRIAN’S PHONE. We will literally show this video to our children while they laugh at us.

46. “Ok, guys, we’ve already done this dance throughout the video, but we spent all day in the woods so we may have forgotten…”

47. The first Backstreet collective thrust. We live for it.

48. HOLD UP. AJ is STILL playing pool.

49. They really do look like predators in the woods. They start moving forward…and I instinctively wanted to run. They’re like a wolfpack.

50. Apparently the signal for “everybody groove to the music” is to wiggle two fingers in the air. At least in Littrell land….followed by his baby bear fist pumps.

51. AJ got his bra money back…completely unaffected. Is he even old enough to gamble in this video?

52. Nick looks like a baby wannabe mobster.

53. Oh, here’s sassy arm-flailing Nick and Kevin once again.

54. 3:54. Weird mini thrusting by AJ, Kevin, Howie and Nick.

55. Conclusion: If the Backstreet Boys had no arms, this video would be nothing.

12 Fans Whose Life Changes Were Inspired By The Backstreet Boys

Since I started WHOTB in December, I’ve been lucky enough to make connections with fans. I’ve heard so many stories of fans meeting the Backstreet Boys for the first time, fun times on the cruise, friends that have been made by going to different BSB events. Among these stories, there has been a common factor – the Backstreet Boys, together and separately, personally and through their music, have changed lives. Here are the stories of a few fans (among thousands) who credit the Boys with inspiring them in unexpected ways and changing them for the better.

  • “I’m Steff and I’m a 16-year-old Backstreet fan. Crazy right? I know what you’re thinking. It may not be “normal” for a 16-year-old to like a boyband from the 90’s when nowadays you have One Direction, Justin Bieber, among other artists that have thousands of girls like me as their fans. Well, guess what? I was born in the wrong era and I deal with that every single day of my life. But…why Steff? Why the Backstreet Boys?It all started back when I was 6 years old. My sister, who’s 7 years older than me, obviously lived during BSB’s early days and of course…she was a fan! And since she listened to them all the time, I started liking their music. I knew their names ever since and watched their music videos as if they were movies. I even had a BSB-themed birthday party! As I started growing older, I was turning into a shy and insecure person. I also had some trouble socializing (still do, less than before though). I always thought that a good conversation topic is the kind of music a person likes. So, since I knew that BSB weren’t from my era, and nobody my age liked them, I was afraid people would judge me by my taste in music. People judging me= no friends.

But now, I can prove myself wrong. Why? Because I started finding the true meaning to the Backstreet Boys’ songs, by listening constantly to them and paying attention to the lyrics. And how did it affect my life? It inspired me to be a better person, the person I am today. They taught me that “what makes me different, makes me beautiful” because I’m “one in a million”. They “don’t care who I am, where I’m from, what I did, as long as I love them”. They “showed me the true shape of their hearts” and that “love is all they have to give”. To “never mind what people say because they don’t understand how BSB left a permanent stain on my heart”. And if that’s not enough, they SHOWED ME WHAT THEY’RE MADE OF.

Unlike any other boybands, the Backstreet Boys have proven after 22 YEARS that they will always be there for their fans, no matter what.

I simply don’t know what would’ve been of my life without the Backstreet Boys. NICK, BRIAN, AJ, HOWIE & KEVIN: I don’t think I’ll ever get to thank you enough <3″ – @Stefbystef_

  • “My inspiration is Brian Littrell, he show how perfect life can be in spite of life’s imperfection. I learned from him how to be a fighter how to conquer your fears and Having a strong faith foundation. I am blessed that a Brian Littrell exist in this world.” – @littrellsoldier
  • ” I’m a big Brian fan (fan since 1996) and I want to say how the Backstreet Boys changed my life is by their positive message in their music and they always believe in what they’re saying. I like how nice and friendly sweet they are with the fans, even though I never met any of them. Hopefully one day I’ll get to meet them in person but just by listening to their stories and watching them on TV, I can tell they’re really cool guys. Some of their music got me out of a bad situation. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time and they helped me be positive and never give up. They pretty much helped me a lot and I’ll always supported them and love them! I’ll be a fan of them always, that’s all I have to say. Keep Backstreet pride alive!” – @ilovebrian4life
  • “To begin with I’m not sure I’m a “typical” BSB fangirl, if there even is such a thing any more. For a brief background on me, yes I’m an “older” fan, I have a year on Kevin. 😉 I’m a full time nurse, full time student, mom to 3 college/high school teens, wife, volunteer and passionate advocate for homeless youth.I have been a fan literally since the Backstreet Boys beginning. I had friends on Ramstein Air Base in the 90’s who followed BSB around Germany/Europe as much as possible and mailed me bootlegged cassette tapes of the boys from Germany back in the day. My 3 kids have been raised on BSB and we have appreciated all the phases they have gone through as a group. The intensity of my fan love & following has shifted over the years with all the life happenings, but I’ve always loved the Boys. I’m devastated to say that my original tapes and much of the earliest BSB memorabilia I had was ruined when we had our basement flood!! :-(How have the Backstreet Boys inspired me and my life? Last year I was contemplating returning to college to finish what I started 27 yrs ago.
In my adult life I have been a licensed cosmetologist and earned 3 college degrees but never completed my RN Bachelors degree and my graduate work to be a Nurse Practitioner. I’ve been a First Responder, a Certified Medical Assistant and a surgical nurse. As I hit my mid-40’s I contemplated returning to finish my 2 more college degrees and achieve my dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner, but was pretty unsure if that was the right path for me “at my age”.

Then the #IAWLT tornado hit the world. The first time I heard “Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of” something just clicked for me. I went to the internet and did some reading about what they all the Boys had been doing before that album and was instantly catapulted back into being a full blooded fangirl! It occurred to me that if Kevin could leave his “stable” BSB life to follow his dreams and try all the things he did, I certainly could. So I started applying at colleges again and jumped back into college life with both feet while not giving up the rest of the things I do! In the meantime it occurred to me that I had put myself on the sidelines in all areas of my life-which can happen to us ladies while we are in the thick of raising kids, working and being moms.

So after a short waiting time and a few classes here and there to gain momentum, nursing school began again full time in January 2015. I also made a 2015 New Years commitment to myself that starting then I was going to give myself the same love and treatment everyone else in my life gets. I cleaned up my eating paleo-style, began running & lifting weights again and made myself a priority on the list with the rest of my loved ones. My goal for 2015 was to be able to show outwardly to others what I was made of, and to be able to be the best me and the best example I could. As of today I have lost 70 lbs and counting, and I continue to mentor my younger classmates, and am now signed up to begin ESL tutoring in Health Sciences programs at my college this fall to help where I can.

How can we best show what we are made of? With actions and love. So HUGE thank you to the Backstreet Boys, especially Kevin, they inspired me to keep working toward my dreams and goals. Can’t wait to meet all of you boys and so many of you BSB fans in the community on the 2016 Cruise!! It will be my celebration of my next college graduation!!

Thank you for the opportunity to share this with you!! Sending love and hugs from MN!!!” – Kristine (@kmaspice)

  • “When I was 25 years old I almost committed suicide. I was going through depression, had anxiety as well. Most of it stemmed from one year of high school that had a lot of deaths in my family at once. I also deal with a lot at home and had no confidence in myself. I was very negative and as a result I pushed everyone away. I hated myself.BSB had been a part of my life for a long time, but I’d kinda grown out of them by 2005. From 2005 to 2009 – I call this “the dark ages.” I was sinking into a hole and I was afraid I couldn’t get myself out. Therapy wasn’t helping either. Then one day I walked into a CVS and saw Nick on People Magazine. He was talking about his weight loss and how he was depressed, how he hated himself. I bought the magazine and tool it home. For the next few years I got back into the fandom. I talked to other fans and made so many friends. I still hid my depression but it was eating away at me. One Thanksgiving, I came home from work and cried. I sat down and cried for about two hours. I was miserable. I was burnt out and exhausted. I worked 60+ hours a week but had nothing to show for it. I didn’t treat myself. I put on Nick’s solo album “Now Or Never” and just cried. If I didn’t stop and listen to that album, I wouldn’t be here writing this right now. “I Got You” calmed me down enough to where I changed my mind about killing myself. I went online and found a video where Nick mentioned Kevin giving him a self help book. I ordered a book by the same author, Norman Vincent Peale. (It’s called The Power Of Positive Thinking) That book really helped me. I also recently got into fitness and have lost 23 pounds since May 1st 2015. I keep meaning to tell and thank Nick about how he saved my life, but haven’t gotten the nerve to do so. I hope one day I will be able to tell him.Ironically enough, if I had been successful at committing suicide, I wouldn’t have met the boys for the first time two years later. The boys and especially Nick gave me something to live for. Hope. I’ve found a purpose for being here. Not just for them but for traveling, for making friends and being happy. Genuinely happy for the first time in my entire life.” – Tracy (@frickingkaos)
  • “Brian Littrell has been my inspiration since I was 12. He shows how much fun in life is possible. Like he said “Life is more than just stuff” and yes it’s true. You’ll be inspired how he values his family. The biggest impact would be on my Faith. I grew up on a Christian Family but I’m not a devoted one, I don’t even go to church every Sunday. It was 2009 when a Christian friend of mine was asking for a song that he would perform on a particular Sunday Service, when I recommended “Welcome Home”. My friend dared me that he would sing it if I watch him perform. I accepted it. Then I couldn’t believe it, that Sunday would be my life’s turning point with my Christian faith… (the rest is history). It started with Brian’s “Welcome Home”. You will be inspired with Brian in every aspect of his well being.” -Schenley (@brileyholic) (Manila, Philippines)
  • “Nick has inspired me so much. It’s thanks to him i went back to college to finish. Im almost done. Whenever i feel like giving up, I always think of Nick because he never gave up so I won’t give up on my dream. I love music even more because of Nick and yes the BSB most definitely. I’m going to study music and get a master’s degree. That will be my major and I owe it to Nick! He is my fave and my hero and so is Lauren. I’m trying to exercise because of her and keep healthy.” – @BSBNeverGone93
  • “The Backstreet Boys changed my life. A sentence I am never ashamed to say. Ever. I’m 31 years old and have loved BSB from the first time I heard their music play in Canada. That’s a lot of years! 🙂 Here’s the cliff notes version: I grew up in a broken, alcoholic, loud yet deathly quiet home. My mom, step father, sister & myself. My step father drank morning noon and night and at times, it wasn’t pretty. When things would get chaotic, I’d tuck myself away in my room, put my headphones in and get absolutely lost. Lost in the beat. Lost in the lyrics. Lost in the most beautiful 5 part harmony I had ever heard in my life. I memorized their voices, the way they pronounced words. I got lost in it all. There were some pretty dark times in my life. Anytime I faced anything as a teenager, I knew where my safest place to hide was. To say their music changed my life is an understatement. I wouldn’t be alive today without their music. I would have given up a long time ago. The Backstreet Boys saved my life, a million times over. I am forever debted to them, their music and for what they’ve done for me. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to share my story.” – Janelle (@janellepineau)
  • “My name is Robyn I have been a fan since 1995. In 2011, I entered a Facebook contest for the BSB cruise, to my surprise I won. I had an amazing time on the cruise and met ppl that I will be friends with the rest of my life! It was awesome. In 2013, I went to LA for the 20th anniversary party and the star ceremony.  On April 20th, while at the party, I got a call from my family telling me my dad was in the hospital.  I told my family I would come home early from my trip but they told me it was not serious, my dad was released the next day.  But I still came home right after the star ceremony.  A week or so later the doctors said there was nothing more they could do so my daddy was put into in home hospice care. I took a lot of time off work and spent it with my daddy. On May 20th, my daddy went to Heaven.  That day I got in my car and of course BSB was in my cd player, the first song I heard was “Never Gone” – it was the perfect time for me to hear it.  I’d heard it before of course but this time it really hit. After I lost my daddy, I was in a mass depression.  Then the boys came to Phoenix for IAWLT and I did platinum vip and told the guys how “Never Gone”  helped me.  At the concert I could feel my dad there with me and it felt like he was happy I was there.  That was when I finally started to really come out if my depression.  That is biggest way Kevin Nick Brian Aj and Howie changed my life.  Sure I would have hopefully come out of the depression eventually but who knows how long that would have taken.  Someday I hope to tell them this story and thank them in person!” – Robyn Stucks aka @RockinRobyn282
  • “I’ve been a fan since ’97. I’ve never been a religious person until 2012 when I feel I kind of had to turn to God and Brian helped me. In 2012, my son was diagnosed with cancer at 9 months old. The day I found out I had this strange urge to reach out to Brian via Twitter. To my surprise he responded and he said “everything has a purpose and every moment should be savored, I’m so very sorry my family will pray for your son” Those words replayed in my mind at every clinic visit, every chemo treatment, surgery, and transfusion. I also started to pray ALOT. My son is about to turn 4 in August and I’m proud to say he’s been off treatment for 2 years and he’s in remission!” – Melissa Lamb
  • “At the age of 10, my parents divorced and I had to live with my father. Sadly, it turned out he and his girlfriend were emotionally abusive. They insulted me, humiliated me in front of their family and friends, lied to me, isolated me and made me feel like the most horrible person in the world. I had no confidence and I was negative about myself. I just wanted to disappear from the world, to stop the pain. When I discovered the BSB, I immediately had a thing for Nick. As I discovered more about him, I realized that he went through some similar things as me. It comforted me and made me feel less… alone, understood even. I’ve always looked up to him because of what he’s gone through, similar personality he has and how he’s dealt with his demons, always striving to be a better person and stay healthy. The BSB have given me hope for brighter days. They’ve also given me strength to go on, fight for what I believe in and fight to show people and myself what I’m made of. I’d listen to their music and find comfort in their positive messages. Their voices calmed me down. Their music, their attitude towards life and fans showed me to be kind, respectful, believe in myself, enjoy life, not be ashamed of myself, follow my dreams, never give up and always, no matter the situation, stay true to myself. Whenever I’d feel down, I’d listen to them and think about the things they’ve showed me and thank whatever is watching us from above that the Earth is so blessed to have five wonderful angels like them.” – Loriane
  • “I am the proud, single mother of two beautiful children.   I work a full time job and when they were younger, ran both kids to sporting events, to friends houses, birthday parties, and all the fun things kids do during childhood.  I did it all happily because I’d do anything for my kids to have a happy, memorable childhood.  The only problem was, with all that came NO time for myself.  After a while, I started to feel depressed and right before my mother moved in with me (my father passed away in 2001 and other than my kids, we are the only family we have), I was near a breakdown.  About that time, I started really getting into the Boys and their music.  I started hanging out on LD quite a bit and made some really good friends and we started making plans for New York trip for the Boys Unbreakable CD signing .  This was the start of my saving grace.  I struggled a lot with that trip, feeling a LOT of guilt about leaving my family at home to go off and see NYC without them.  Little did I know that trip was going to be the first of many more and in time, it also helped me realize that I shouldn’t feel guilty about going on trips to see the Boys.  I started to realize that I deserved something for myself.  My work, homelife and my kids were well taken care of.  The Boys have brought so many friends in my life and provided an escape from all the pressures in life, to go and have fun with friends from all over the globe.  Made me realize, why wait until I retire to go and do things I want to do, when I’m healthy enough and have the means to do it NOW.  Tomorrow isn’t promised to us.  The time to enjoy life is NOW.  The Boys helped me realize this and I couldn’t be more grateful and thankful to them for it.  Being a part of this fandom is truly one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.” – Jen (@JennayHeartNick)

7 TV Shows We’d Like To See The Backstreet Boys On

In the past two years, with the BSB movie finally being released and I Heart Nick Carter having a weekly TV spot, we realized how much we love seeing our Boys on the screen just as much as in person. With a good amount of reality shows being open to celebrity contestants now (i.e. Jon Knight on The Amazing Race), we’ve gotten ideas about our own Boys being on TV shows. Whether it be game shows, reality show contests, or their own show altogether…we have a few suggestions.

1. Dancing With The Stars.

With boyband alumni like Drew Lachey (who won), Joe McIntyre, and Joey Fatone, the Backstreet Boys are the last band without representation as a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. While they did perform on the show (like a bunch of bosses), we would LOVE to see one (or two) of them compete on a weekly basis. To the end. Because they would kick all the ass. Obviously, Kevin would be a top choice considering he is trained in ballroom dancing (but no one outside of the fandom has to know that). Brian would KILL the freestyle round if he made it to the end, but he has made it clear that dancing is not his favorite thing to do. We also have a feeling that Howie would be a darkhorse winner. No one would see it coming, but he would salsa, samba, and paso his way to the end. We’re sure Nick and AJ would do well too, but let’s be real, AJ would talk too much and Nick likes to do his own dancing too much.

2. Kevin Should Start His Own Show On The Travel Channel.

Out of all of the Backstreet Boys, everyone will agree that Kevin is the best at spending his time well in different cities. For two years while on the IAWLT tour, there weren’t many dates where he did not tweet out photos of different cities, landmarks, and what he was doing while there. Honestly, everything we know about places we’ve never been, we’ve learned from Kevin. Even when he’s off tour, he’s vacationing on different beaches and lakes and he looks like he enjoys the hell out of it. WE. WANT. TO. TRAVEL. WITH. THE. RICHARDSONS. Even if it’s just through a TV screen. He’s great for tourism, guys!

3. Hollywood Game Night

If you haven’t seen this show, you must check it out. Hosted by Jane Lynch and created by funnyman Sean Hayes, the game show brings together 6 celebrities and 2 “normal” people in a series of trivia games. This would be where we would most love to see AJ or Brian. They are both full of random knowledge, quick, and love to jump around, which is what this show requires. It’s also only a 60 minute commitment and it would be more than fun to watch!

4. Howie Could Have A Show On HGTV.

We know that Howie’s side job in the past has been real estate and a show on HGTV might just be where he belongs. With multiple celebrities starting their own HGTV ventures in remodeling and flipping, Howie would be the first to actually deal with real estate only. And you better believe there would be a lot of Backstreet fans with new houses. Good ol’ Howie…helping the economy.

5. The Amazing Race.

With pairs like The Harlem Globetrotters and Jon Knight with his fiance running the Amazing Race in the past seasons, we feel like the Backstreet Boys would have a CLEAR advantage as they have active fans all over the world that would cheat for them. This may be the best one for Nick. He could take Lauren with him and we’re pretty sure that they would NAIL the roadblocks and detours. Both of them have a ton of knowledge of different countries and it seems like a no-brainer for them to compete.

6. A Makeover Show With AJ McLean.

AJ has always been known for his style, good or bad or both. Our conclusion in a past post was that AJ would be the perfect girl’s best friend, and we have no doubt that he would rock a ‘what not to wear’ type show. His big heart allows him to be kind enough to understand, but his fashionista side would allow him to be able to throw out all of the unflattering things. With the help of friends like Kathy Griffin and his makeup/stylist wife, Rochelle, we would LOVE to see how it turns out.

7. We’d Really Love Brian On The Food Network.

hqdefault

We’ve seen it on Instagram. We’ve seen it on the BSB movie. The secret is out – Brian Littrell can cook…. and he likes it! While it’s mostly breakfast food items, something about Brian in the kitchen is hot, hot, hot (ha!) and we could only imagine the commentary and ridiculous apron collection he might have. Maybe he can even show us how to make those hushpuppies he bragged about. Ohhhh yeah.

Fans Want It That Way: What Songs We Want To Hear (Or Not) On The Next Backstreet Boys Tour

DSC06578

Every new Backstreet Boys tour brings new surprises and the one everyone always wants to know (but tries to avoid for fear of ruining their show) is the setlist. Typically, the Boys are promoting a new album on every new tour but, of course, can’t leave out their classics. Tour after tour, they have added new songs, brought back the insanely old, and have kept certain ones on the list, but we were curious as to what the general fan opinion is on what we love to hear, what we REALLY miss, and what we could do without. Here are the results…

What We Want Added / Kept

The songs fans requested to hear once more (or for the first time live) might surprise you. Topping the list were:

What To Throw Out

Sorry, Boys. We know that there are some songs performed that are “mainstays” but, forgive us, we may go to the bathroom during “Incomplete” and “I Want It That Way”.

Incomplete. I know we gotta keep it since it’s the only consistent post 2005 song but eh – @ForeverRebel

Incomplete. – @Yahtzee27

I Want It That Way. – @KatieOK_

Quit Playing Games – @MauraSull

“The One” … it’s nice…but boring – @smeagols_twin

For me, it’s “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” – @BSBroxtheworld

I’d want to hear a song from IAWLT that they haven’t performed live to replace “Madeleine” (sorry!) – @teenie36214

I’d have to say “I want it that way”. – @Lethe85

I loved “Incomplete” when it was released but it’s too depressing and kinda boring now. – @Kalayra18

Dead 7 (A Zombie Western By Nick Carter) : By The Numbers

dead7big

The media is buzzing with news of Nick Carter, the youngest member of the Backstreet Boys, coming into his own with another “solo” project and this time, it’s completely different. While Dead 7 is new to the film world, fans have been following the progression for the past two years. Here is a “by the numbers” look at how far Nick has come to put this film into motion.

2013: The year Nick Carter started an IndieGoGo Campaign to crowdfund a horror film that he co-wrote and would ultimately star in himself.

$85,000: The IndieGoGo campaign goal to make the film come to life (or dead?)

$156,214: How much money the campaign actually raised by Nick Carter / Backstreet Boys / Horror fans all over the world.

1,349: How many individuals contributed to the campaign.

3: How many name changes the film gone through. From Evil Blessings to Dead West to Dead 7.

2014: The year Nick announced the changes to the name and the movie plot. Evil Blessings would turn into Dead West and would now be a zombie western – “the story of a ragtag band of gunslingers who must rid a small town of a zombie plague in a post-apocalyptic West”, according to a press release regarding the movie.

118: The number of films The Asylum has produced, including the cult classic Sharknado trilogy. Nick signed on with the production company in January to produce his own film.

167: The number of shows Nick performed on tour with the Backstreet Boys in the midst of planning Dead West / Dead 7 and fulfilling the “perks” purchased from the IndieGoGo campaign. (Not including the Nick and Knight tour)

130,000: The number of people in attendance to the 2015 San Diego Comic where Nick (along with The Asylum, Lauren Kitt-Carter, Joey Fatone, and AJ McLean) released more details regarding Dead 7 (along with the title change) in a panel.

7: The number of “bandits” who must save the small town, including Lauren, Nick’s wife.

1: The number of NSync members in Dead 7 …so far. During the Comic Con panel, Joey Fatone, who will be in the movie, joked that they could probably also ask Lance Bass to be in the film too…as a can-can girl.

2 (?): The number of Backstreet Boys confirmed to be in Dead 7. While AJ McLean and Howie Dorough are all in, the jury is still out on Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. When asked by a fan, Nick tweeted that the cousins were “very interested”.

4: Number of other superstars Nick has tweeted to ask if they’re interested in cameos. These stars include: Paul McCartney, Sisqo, Niall Horan, and Mel B. A boyband and 90s icons palooza, for sure!

2016: Year that Dead 7 is slated to be finished and aired on the Syfy network.

Millions: Number of supporters Nick has had for this film since the beginning. We can’t wait!

7 Moments With The Backstreet Boys On MTV : 1998

Recently, our affilate, The Darkside of Backstreet, started a blog connected with their forum and we have decided to collaborate on a few posts that will be posted on both sites. Rose at TDS provided the videos (YAY!!) and I’ve provided the written commentary.

For many of us, we were introduced to the Backstreet Boys on MTV and our lives were changed forever. Sometimes we forget how far they’ve come. Sometimes we forget how much MTV has changed since the 90s. Sometimes we just really want to get those nostalgic feels. For your viewing pleasure, for the next few weeks…days…months (whatever we feel like, really), we’ll be posting old appearances from the MTV days of yore and we’ll be waiting for your cries of joy and “OH MY! I FORGOT THIS EXISTED!”

You’re welcome.

5 Things That Backstreet Boys Fans And Zombies Have In Common

11720667_10207718773391982_604520285_n

Recently, there has been a zombie fascination running through the Backstreet fandom (Thanks to Nick Carter and Dead 7). The more one thinks about it, the more you can start drawing connections between fans and zombies that might have inspired Mr. Carter in the first place.

1. The Boys Infected Us…And We’re Turning Others.

Since 1993, the Backstreet Boys have been traveling the world and “infecting” us one fan at a time. They sing songs that draw us near and then send us out to recruit others. Our friends have tried to run, but they can’t hide. Before they know it, they are hanging out in the night with us, piling into cars, crowding into concerts and hypnotized by our leaders the Backstreet Boys.

2. We’d Probably Eat Their Brains.

We are so hungry for anything the Boys feed us that we would jump straight into their heads and eat their brains if we could. Consider it extreme affection. And the fact that we want every bit of information that they’re holding inside. At least we’re not eating other body parts…

3. We’re Usually In Need Of Rest.

Let’s face it. Half of our lives as fans aren’t spent not sleeping. We go to midnight releases, we’re up early for morning appearances, we’re waiting in line for VIP, we’re setting our clocks for timezones on the other side of the world for a special announcement, we’re partying on a cruise… Backstreet Boys fans DO. NOT. SLEEP. Unlike zombies though, we are happily unrested…and don’t smell as bad.

4. They Can’t Escape Us.

“Booyyyysssss. BOOOYYSS!” That is our mantra as opposed to the usually “braiiiinss” you hear from the typical zombie. They think they’re being so sneaky about what hotel they’re in, what restaurant they’re eating at, or what studio they’re recording in, but we literally sniff them out and come in hoards to vie for their affections. Nothing affects us. We’ll wait in the rain. We’ll wait all night. Someone could throw a frying pan at our faces and we’d stand there bleeding just for a glimpse of Brian running in front of us.

5. We’d Break Our Limbs Off And Throw Them… If It Meant Getting Closer.

Much like zombies who will do anything to get what they want, we’ve come close to taking one of our arms off and waving it around with the other just to get attention from our five favorite men. While we may not throw it at them (but we might at other fan-ombies that get in our way), there are plenty of us that do not feel pain during Backstreet events. EYES ON THE PRIZE. Our wonderful humans, the Backstreet Boys.
